Erasmus+ programme for student exchange
The ERASMUS+ programme provides funding for exchange terms/studies abroad and internships in Europe within the framework of the EU Programme for Lifelong Learning. Please click here if you are interested in ERASMUS+ funding for internships.
In order to qualify for ERASMUS+ funding, the exchange programme must be one organised by the University of Cologne on the basis of an ERASMUS agreement. Students apply for the exchange term (Study Abroad Programme – STAP Bachelor or STAP Master) through the International Relations Center of the WiSo Faculty (ZIB WiSo). The ERASMUS+ programme is part of the STAP programme.
Students who have been selected for an ERASMUS exchange are guided through the process by the ERASMUS Team of the ZIB WiSo, i.e. the outgoing coordinators for bachelor and master students and their student assistant, whom you can contact via their shared email address wiso-outgoingsuni-koeln.de.
Selection process
Selection for the Study Abroad Programme (STAP), which includes the ERASMUS+ programme, is based on a written application. There are no selection interviews. Applications are submitted via the WiSo EXchange (WEX) International Outgoings Portal within the timeframe specified for the STAP application process. Results are communicated to the students approximately ten weeks after the application deadline. All correspondence will be sent to the student’s university email address only.
Selection criteria for bachelor students
ZIB WiSo ranks the applicants in the current STAP application round based on the average grade achieved in their degree. This ranking is the basis for admission or refusal as well as allocation to the applicant's preferred partner university. Where two or more applicants have identical average grades and preferred universities, the speed of study decides. Where this is also identical, a decision is made by drawing lots.
Selection criteria for master students
ZIB WiSo ranks the applicants in the current STAP application round based on their application documents, including the GPA certificate from their bachelor studies, their CV and a motivation letter. This ranking is the basis for admission or refusal as well as allocation to the applicant's preferred partner university. For detailed information on the selection criteria, please refer to the 'STAP Master Application Manual' which can be found here.
